Soldiers Fall 56-50 in Final Game of ‘07

The GCS Soldiers just couldn’t find a good rhythm on Friday night as they fell to the Teays Valley Christian School Lions 56-50. Good shots were tough to come by all night long as inconsistent officiating led to a lot of contact on shots under the basket. J.P. Perry led the Soldiers in scoring for the third straight game with 14 points. Tim Brokke and Stephen Wray both chipped in with 10. The Soldiers head into Christmas break with a 5-3 record.

The first game of 2008 will be a home game against Wood County Christian School on Friday, January 4, at 7:30. GCS will hold a number retirement ceremony before the game for Drew Weber and Jacob Smith, both 1000-point scorers from the class of 2005.

Soldiers Fall in 3OT Thriller

The GCS Soldiers lost one of the most exciting game in school history Tuesday night, 76-70 in triple overtime to Cross Lanes. The Soldiers jumped out to an 11-point halftime lead, but superb shooting by the Warriors in the second half allowed them to crawl back into the game. J.P. Perry led the Soldiers with a career-high 28 points despite playing most of the second half with severe leg cramps while Devon Selbee showed flashes of brillance, finishing with 16. Caleb George led all scorers with 29 for the Warriors, including 4 of Cross Lanes’ 9 three-pointers.

GCS (5-2) looks to rebound from the tough loss with their final game before Christmas break on Friday night at Teays Valley Christian School.

Soldiers March To 5-1

All nine Soldiers’ players scored Friday night, as GCS defeated the Seneca Trail Blazers 73-38 to improve their record to 5-1. The long trip to Ronceverte, WV, combined with a very short pre-game warm-up contributed to a very sloppy first quarter for the Soldiers and saw the Blazers leading 9-7. The Soldiers experimented with many different lineups throughout the game as they tried to get everyone involved receiving some much-needed game experience. The Soldiers finally found their rhythm midway through the 2nd quarter after falling behind by 6 points. The Blazers never gave up and proved to be very game opponents, out-rebounding the Soldiers 33-31 including 21 offensive rebounds. Despite only playing 13 minutes, J.P. Perry led all scorers with 18 points. Nathan Hale led the Soldiers with 9 rebounds. Daniel Pemberton’s good defense led to 7 of the Soldiers’ 16 steals on the evening.

GCS looks to continue its momentum on Tuesday night at 7:30 against arch-rival Cross Lanes Christian School.
